Following the explosion that rocked Port Harcourt Mall yesterday (Wednesday 12 June, 2019), the management of Spar Nigeria has released an update concerning the incident that occurred.
The incident which left no fewer that five persons have been “seriously” injured.
Nnamdi Omoni, spokesman of Rivers State police command, has confirmed the incident saying the cause of the explosion which occurred at the bakery area of the mall is yet to be ascertained.
Omoni said those injured are currently receiving treatment at the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), adding that the police have commenced full investigation into the incident.

An incident occurred today at the Port Harcourt Mall as a result of a gas explosion. While this did not occur within the Spar Supermarket, we are supporting the authorities and management during the investigation. Our thoughts, prayers and support are with those who were injured.
We thank HE Governor of Rivers State for sending a high powered team to inspect the mall and for providing full support during this difficult time.
The shopping mall will be open tomorrow morning at regular hours. We will provide updates as the investigation progresses, and most importantly, we pray for the speedy recovery of those who were affected by this and extend our support during these trying times.
