The Concern And Compassionate Of Our Soul-Winning Christ

“How think ye? If a man have an hundred sheep, and one of
them be gone astray, doth he  not leave
the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seekth that which is
gone astray?” Mathew 18:2

The Concern And Compassionate Of Our Soul-Winning Christ

Christ, as a soul-winner, was compassionate and concerned
for man’s situation.

The concern of our Lord was to seek and save the lost. The
entire ministry of our Lord was spanned by love, concern and compassion. He
healed the sick, delivered the oppressed and preached to save sinners (John
3:16; 15:13). This concern and compassion is shown in His attitude to the
sinners, destitute and the rudderless (Matthew 9:35-38).
He went about all cities and villages. He fed multitudes out
of compassion. He was earnest and diligent. He wanted to cover as much ground
as possible. He was not idle. Rather, His threefold ministry; teaching,
preaching and healing – was in full operation.
He taught the disciples and challenged them to preach
(Mathew 9:38). We must follow His examples. We must be concerned about the
physical, material, spiritual and emotional welfare of our flock if we are to
please God and make proof of our ministry.
Christ’s concern and compassion was borne out of His
knowledge of the fact that sinners have invaluable souls that must spend
eternity either in heaven or hell and that many of them can be saved if and
when someone presents the gospel to them.
The Lord’s expression, “the harvest truly is plenteous…”
(Matthew 9:37) underscores the importance of fervent, effectual prayers that
should precede properly prepared and pungent preaching which leads to the
conversion of souls.
